i ve read that people connect hard drive while the system is on (generally on raid 5 systems). Is it ok to connect a drive in this way?
will it be recognized by fedora instantly?
depends on the hardware
harddisk .. USB ?
ide
normally if you talk about (serious) RAID, the OS doesn't see the real disks, but only virtual ones.
don't
ouch .. may be creazy
crazy
to do that
nphilipp, ok
CrocoJet, all right I won't. just ckecking out
thanks all
lol .. ok
I saw one time one crazy that put notebook insde pool with water
for RAID hot plugging you usually need special hardware
youtube
all fine as long as it was a pool of distilled water ;-)
hehehehe
nphilipp, no i don't have such a setup. only a ata 133 controller which won't let the machine boot from the cdrom while it is installed in the system. crazy hardware manufacturers

Do anyone know how to control the mount options of removable devices?
I want to run a command from a script as a root, is there a way to do that?
The script will be executed from the web.
sudo is a good way.
hno sudo will ask for a password?
Depends on how you configure sudo. Both alternatives available.
Thanks! Got it.
Properties?
Can't see any where to control the mount options there.. only permissions etc. Need to add the "shortname=winnt" option.
mompl
mompl? whats that?
moment please
Ok.
You need to edit the HAL policies. No, I don't know how.
Settings
rather Volume
that works for me with a USB stick
Where exacly? In the "Computer" screen or somewhere else? If I open Properties on the removable drive (USB HDD) I only have Basic, Emblems, Permissons, Notes
Hmm.. should be able to use gnome-mount from the command line.. but I can't seem to make it save the settings..
is there a IRC channel for Fedora 4?
libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file
I'm moving to ubuntu,
wat do i need to solve that?
in a channel sense.
libsdtc++ or compat-libstdc++-... pkg

Have no "Volume tab" there.. only "Basic, Emblems, Permissons, Notes"
anyway, found where to set the system-wide default for vfat using gconf-editor..

hi there, does anyone know if it's possible to install fedora 7 on a powerpc via the internet (network install)?
I haven't tested it, but I assume it works just like any other network install
Yes.
I'm trying to setup Bluetooth Audio support and I've gone through 2 howtos already. hcitool scan shows the headset, but hcitool cc doesn't provide any feedback nor is the headset getting paired. hcitool auth reports "nothing connected". Now what?
Did you try using the GNOME Bluetooth tool to pair?
Actually, you need to pair from the phone.
Which version of Fedora are you running?
F7
Same here.. so it's not that..
with me it's a USB stick, no disk
i have a problem with my wifi card i have just installed the new kernel and now wifi don't work
as long as the machine to be installed doesn't need to connect to the Internet itself, but through a router or asnother machine
my log
http://rafb.net/p/B8wBNX72.html
anyone know howto get vmware kernel module to compile with the updated kernel ?
Caracuri, what about it?
the kernel module is loaded but the wifi don't work if i launch #iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensio
seems you have wired network connected, in that case it won't try wifi
what wlan hardware is this?
iwl3945
with the last kernel wifi work
Could not read microcode: -22
what does it mean?
Caracuri, I think you need to install some firmware for that thing ?
i have launched rmmod iwl3945 but the the problem is the same
i have installed it iwlwifi-firmware.noarch 2.14.3-2 installed
it seems a bug
Caracuri, have you had a look at http://fedoramobile.org/Members/opsec/intel-ipw3945-on-fedora-7/
oh boy that makes you compile a kmod
Of course it does. It's ipw, not iwl.
some of the best things in life don't come easy
ivazquez, if you know how to help Caracuri with this particular chip go ahead, I don't know intel chipsets at all
Nor have I. The iwl driver is still a bit off. If you've installed the latest firmware and it still isn't working then use the ipw driver.
oki
asp
in update testing repository there is a new firmware for me
Oh, and log a bug if you can't get it working.
Hi, can someone suggest a good ftp please
gftp
i mean ftpd sorry
vsftpd
thanks i'll look into that now
Good for what?
good in terms of low ram usage, previous history of security holes and easy to set up
Just use scp.
unmaged server and giving a friend some space so rather him have an account ftp account
Why do you think you need an ftpd at all? What does your "friend" have to do with using scp or sftp?
I want to make localhost point to 127.0.0.1 which file do I edit?
Or a command possible
It alredy does, unless you've deliberately changed it.
/etc/hosts but I would be amazed if localhost was already 127.0.0.1. What does it point to now?!?
er, amazed if it was NOT already 127.0.0.1
r u gettting ::1 localhost, is that the issue?
oing localhost returns uknow host localhost
ping
So, undo whatever change you already made.
rails, postgresql , mongrel and apache that is what the server hosting is being used for
ok now work correctly the wifi the bug is solved
i think I need to set it up, I'm using a stripped fedora version, stripped to the bone.
Yes, and what, other than nothing, does that have to do with using something insecure like ftp vs sftp or scp?
well the fact i need to get the files uploaded to a remote server
\/etc\/hosts doesn't exist should I create it?
Yes, so?
Why did you delete it?
I did not lol
Of course you did.
I got it without it.
not all editors support scp, sftp is better supported
No I did not
big warnings are going off in my head, how did you get to this point?
What, other than nothing, do "editors" have to do with it?
I'm using a web service of some sort and their they let you setup your own server. The server I started on was stripped to the bone. There was almost nothing in it. Had to install, wget, tar, basic stuffs..
yeech!
It was fast as hell though
Don't you love how you have to beat details out of people?
mate just leave it i'll just set up my server on my own just wanted advice not bloody help
Not anyone's fault but your own that you don't know what you're doing.
You might consider just loading a complete fedora install instead of having to figure out each detail yourself, that's gonna be a lot of work, especially if /etc/hosts is not known to you, yer gonna be there all day
set up proftpd with mysql access in the past and sure i'm not use to fedora i'm more use to arch/debian and ubuntu
Been setting up the server for 3 days now lots of work
I
It generally takes me a couple hours to set up a server and most of that time is drinking soda and chatting.
A full distro would help you alot I think.
why anaconda does not accept address/mask of the type: 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 ? and it expects 192.168.0.1/32 ?
what have you been trying to set up exactly i'm curious to why its taken so long
also, which utility should be used to configure the network from the command line? which one is the default on fedora?
not trying to beat you up friend, just thinking you'd be far better served to have the full distro.
Isn't yum remove/erase not supposed to removed the pacakge given AND it's dependcies (those not dependcies of other packages installed)?.. When I ex. yum install openbox it installs openbox and openbox-libs.. but afterwards yum remove openbox only removed openbox-package and not
openbox-libs
hello
I'm a noobie
no, it should not.
does anyone have a good knowledge/experience with clonezilla?
That's cool, but that's also why I recommend the regular ol' Fedora load, you'll find it helps you immensely.
on each of them? Haven't been able to find anything on this. Yum extender can do it but what about some non-graphical?
scampbell, The yum man-page says: "Are used to remove the specified packages from the system as well as removing any packages which depend on the package being removed.".. Doesn't that mean that it will remove the deps too?
If you remove the openbox-libs then it will remove openbox because openbox depends on openbox-libs.
It only installs/removes things that -need- to be removed.
sorry, back and forth, doing an EMC and HPUX upgrade... oh the joy.
scampbell, ahh okay.. It makes sense when I read it now .. but how do I then remove the openbox AND openbox-libs only by knowing the openbox-package is installed?
i'm in a jam here fellas
anyone here?
wtf when a dhcp server exists across the network and a network installation url is set in a kickstart file, then anaconda does not let you choose if you want the f'n ipv6 stuff or not and it does not let choose if you want a static ip. I mean the one who wrote this stuff. is s/he
serious?
i was updating all my software through the Add/Remove software application, and i cancelled it, now i'm missing all my software
anyone have any ideas?
ziptnf, from what i have been through today, there is a high possibility that fedora is too f'n beta
yeah, but this is like... major
missing all your software??
rpm -qa | wc -l
yeah
ziptnf, use yum to upgrade the system
yeah i was looking that up
thanks
so which one should i use?
rpm -qa | wc -l or yum update
what do you mean
ziptnf, not that yum is anything spectacular, but it's all we have at the mopment
the first tells you how many packages you have installed
*mopment=moment
you don't but you already know that you installed openbox and openbox-libs
i highly doubt that will be 0
there is only yum for updating your systme. what you used, was just agraphical frontend to yum
consider that Xorg using Glibc, should removing Xorg cause Glibc to be removed? (of course not).
will it reinstall all the stuff i lost?
hopefully...
i have 1002 packages installed
scampbell, no but the deps which are not required by other pacakges
Guys.. I have a problem like that: after rebooting PC i see only a word: "GRUB". Yesterday was the third time that it happened. :/
That's the way it works. It prevents you from having incompatible or missing packages, it doesn't mop the floor though.
i'll be right back, guys. gonna reboot. crossing my fingers.
and... it beats the heck outta the windows "This DLL may or may not be in use, shall i removed it" stuff
Hmm.. How should I ask for help to be listened?
I agree, I have no choice the servers they have that are already setup are using fc4 and quite unstable for the apps I'm using. I actually prefer that the server is setup, too much work installing all the things I need(Though I'm learning a lot and love it).
scampbell, openbox-libs is not required by any other packages installed on the system, but openbox... So there is no reason why openbox-libs should still be installed after I've removed openbox..
you've chosen "Trial by fire", is this correct? Please step into the frying pan
-++++
hi all guys
how do we know you didn't compile something against those libs? You want them gone then remove them.
No choice, I can't install a full OS on my own, so I'm using the best host one they got and build from it.
Whether there is a Russian channel fodora here?
alright, guys i just restarted X and i have no luck. X won't start up, because i don't think it's there anymore.
+-+
this is bad news.
i don't think i can restore my system
to an old state
scampbell, we don't, but we say that I've only installed software though yum pre-compiled packages..
what should i do?
rpm -q xorg-x11-server-Xorg
it's there, ivazquez
not that I know of perhaps someone should begin one ;-)
What error do you get when you try to start X?
nphilipp The channel is already created also the domain already by someone has bought )
it couldn't open libgnomeui.so or something
that's the way it works friend. I can't change it for ya.
it seems like it got rid of Gnome
rpm -q libgnomeui
or something
nphilipp chanel #fedora-ru, but is empty now (
it's not installed
Well, we can't magically fill it with people.
try this yum deplist openbox I think you'll be surprised how many dependencies there are really. the install only grabbed one other you didn't have.
ivazquez, i installed libgnomeui and X has started, but gnome hasn't
scampbell, yeah.. I know the dependcy-race.. I've been running Gentoo for the past 2 years, so I've tried some "broken" deps and stuff :p .. But thanks anyway
I'll just have to keep track on what deps I use and what I don't
ivazquez I would sit here, but I not so well know English (
ivazquez I shall better take part in Russian-speaking support
*shrug* I hate to sound cold, but NMFP.
ivazquez, looks like i'm missing damn near everything
Hrm. Perhaps you should try a media upgrade then.
like how?
Whats the best ftp server for linux?
Put in the media, boot off it, upgrade.
i wish there was something like freebsd ports system where you can just reupgrade everything
hi
Feel free to write a yum plugin for that.
lol
i'm trying to figure out what i should do...
is this the right channel for problems with usb permissions (camera) after update?
Check Bugzilla first.
*still*? Define "best".
@ivazquez: Did you answer my question?
Not that the ports system would help him here any more than yum does.
For this instance, most used, most tested, most recommended lol
Yes.
any recomendations?
@mwilson, i'm just trying to figure out if there's anything that i can do other than basically reformat
People who think "lol" is punctuation should be shot.
I know I don't lol
LOL lol
does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
where can i get mp3/mpeg/quicktime plugins for ferora7
Grrr... my cell won't charge off my blackberry charger and the blackberry won't charge off my cell's charger.
@Ominous, look it up
Google is your friend
in 3rd party repositories.
Don't forget, he wants you to guess which media player he uses.
there are some stupidities in anaconda that i don't even want to file a bug about!
@Ominous, if you use something like gxine or xine, there are libraries for that
@mwilson, i can play the guessing game.
does anybody else think i should just manually reinstall everything ?
I'd try a media upgrade first.
I'd just reinstall what's missing, were it me.
what do you mean by that, ivazquez? you said put something on the media, but what?
Erm, the install iso.
Burn it to a disc then boot from it.
yeah then upgrade from that?
Yes.
is there an option to upgrade?
...
Why would he tell you to do it if there weren't one?
At least THINK about what you're asking.
@mwilson, never done a media upgrade before, don't be a dick
i just lost all of my software, i think its okay if i ask a few stupid questions
Somehow I very much doubt it's "all", or even a significant fraction.
"Attempted to kill init!" when loading vmlinuz... What can i do?
well, the portion that allows X to start up, and for my desktop to function like a desktop
does it say anything like "unable to mount / " ?
Yes, it says a lot of things like that...
Feel free to eventually tell us what it IS saying...
And I cannot acces my system from any live accept FC7 rescue CD
Last error is that it cannot find '/dev/console'
Other erroe are about mounting...
hey guys, what about if i use the rescue CD?
It was very strange, because I didn't make anything in system and then I rebooted it and there was only one word "GRUB"
I reinstalled grub and I noticed, that I don't have any kernel installed
So I updeted kernel [using yum]
And now i'm getting this error :/
It's third time when it happened...
Usb cameras that are not mounted as drives but using the PTP-protocoll, are they handled by udev?
well your kernel can access your hard drive, sounds like you rebuilt your kernel without the proper driver for your hard disk
did you try booting from the old kernel ?
I don't have any
The directory /grub disappered :/
is anyone of the people who make decisions about anaconda in here? i would really like to ask a few questions about the logic behind some of the anaconda features.
I've used yum to install new kernel, so it should have proper driver, shouldn't it?
the kernel is in /boot not /grub
zeroos, what about /boot ?
Sory, /boot
as long as the kernel files are still in /boot ...
Not /grub
hi. i'm having FC7 installed on /dev/sda and winXP on /dev/sdb. when i try to boot windows from the grub menu however, it fails to boot with no error. The harddisk windows is installed on is ide, FC7 is on a sata disk. could this cause the troubles ?
your /boot is gone ?
Yes.
After just rebooting system :/
then you wont be able to boot period
zeroos, is it gone or empty ?
empty
Makes it any different?
is it suppoesed to be on a separate partition that isn't mounted?
No.
I have all files on one partition.
Do you have any idea why sth like this happened?
Purple elephants.
And how to fix it?
Purple elephants.
zeroos, how many drives in the box?
Bugzilla doesn't file any bugs about that problem that were recently
You mean hdd? /hda and /hdb... But system is on /hda.
The problem just came up after updating on friday (kernel 2.6.22, autofs, ...)
Okay, feel free to add one then.
zeroos, don't know sry
Where can I look for help?
Was hoping to find someone here who's more into udev or hal
zeroos, on #fedora maybe
I'm trying to figure out some more details before adding a bug
tobi1canobe, You mean, here?
Cause i'm not sure yet, if those cameras (not mounted but using PTP) are handled by udev or by what else
uCause i'm not sure yet, if those cameras (not mounted but using PTP) are handled by udev or by what else/u
Lots of people are having mounting issues with 2.6.22.1.
Are they?
What can I do with it?
On otherwise fine systems. Not complete meltdowns.
I've repaired it.. Now it's the problem with mounting... I hope so.
sorry i cant find anything that works on google about mp3/quicktime/mpeg
can someone please point me the right way
Did you try the URLs in the topic?
Me?
No.
fedorasolved.org
good morning
élo
could you solve your RAID problem yesterday?
nphilipp nope
hmm
you said that it bit you with the new kernel, did you try booting into the old one?
nphilipp yes it boots, but it has nothing with it, and all the downloads are for the new kernel
nphilipp I noticed that with the new kernel, the headers say they are 15mb but you only download the 4.6mb version, no matter what you choose. I think they made a mistake and included the update version where the non-update version belongs
I'm not quite sure I understand you 100% -- Is my assumption correct that a) you can boot into the old kernel without problems and that b) the newly installed kernel can't mount the RAID devices?
what is "they" (are 15mb) and what is the "4.6mb version"?
I'm not quite following
nphilipp I have to build a module... but I cant cause it sends multiple build warnings...
nphilipp I think the newest update has a kernel-devel update, not a kernel-devel full version
there are only "full versions" unless you use the new "diff-RPM" thing where only diffs between pkg versions are distributed
possibly your mirror has a broken kernel-devel pkg file?
GreenJelly, warnings usually dont stop builds
nphilipp correct
it could also be that the volume containing /var/cache/yum is full
errors stop builds
VileGent I have tried the build, even though I had the build warnings with no success
correct "a) ... and b) ..." or correct "broken mirror"
i installed realplayer using rpm, how do i remove it
what driver are you building
and did you do what mwilson told you to do last nite
"rpm -e RealPlayer" or "yum remove RealPlayer" shouold be an FAQ
-o
i did that, didnt think it worked
bah it did, sorry to bother yoy
you*
"rpm -e ..." is quite quiet if it works
as most Unix commands, yum is an exception
vilegent http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/bios_rr2300.htm the drivers on the bottom
vilegent I did install the kernel rpm for 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 but like I said, I cant get the kernel dev for that version
how are you trying
szec provided some wonderfull instructions for me, cause the rr2300 driver manual was very misleading, and didnt include some steps... I will paste the instructions, as they did work in the last version!
GreenJelly, nm
isnt your old kernel the default f7 kernel?
how did you try to install the kernel-devel pkg for that kernel?
can someone explain why network installation works only with DHCP obtained ip address?
Purple elephants.
vilegent my old kernel was original the default, then updated to the 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7, then when I was attempting to install the new mail deamon I accedently updated to the new version, and that lead me to a failure at boot because the new module which was needed for my "/Media/Movies" Raid
5 array was not working, thus I was missing the driver, I then removed the RAID 5 array entries in...
...the two files and it booted up without a problem off of my mirriored drive that is on the INTEL ICH8 chipset (which has modules included in the fedora distabution)
because the one in front of the keyboard doesnt know how to set it up correctly manually.
Anvil, my friend are you serious?
nphilip let me post the instructions I use to instal my module
i wouldnt see any other reason, with the poor description you've given.
how do i go about installing pam_pwdfile on FC6?
Anvil, all right the description is poor indeed, but i have try to perform a network installation as it should be and i cannot because anaconda is designed to *guess* what the user wants and it fails miserably
damn looking for that post text site
hello
did anyone suceed in using nspluginwrapper?
*succeed
I've built the package from the review request and installed it
but it doesn't seem to find any plugins
I have libflashplayer.so installed in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
http://rafb.net/p/eiKG8545.html
last time i've checked anaconda accepted manually network configuration.
Anvil, you are right, it does, but for a network installation there are some things that are not right. And i am pretty sure that i am not wrong because i have wasted some valuable time with it
well, I use nspluginwrapper for flash, but a different package, not the one from the review
I dont know what you're talking about.
a network installation that uses a kickstart file for some of the installation options
how did you make it work?
nspluginwrapper --auto?
I'm not quite sure, it's been a while
there's no such binary in this package
do you have a newer kernel installed that the one for which you want to build?
are there any binaries in the package?
some bash script called nspluginsetup in /usr/bin
and some binaries in /usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper
npconfig
can't help you with this I'm afraid then
npviewer
probably a different version
0.9.91.4
nphilipp yes... look at this... I have found this in all distro sites everywhere http://fedora.kiewel-online.de/repoview/linux/updates/7/i386/repodata/repoview/kernel-devel-0-2.6.22.1-27.fc7.html notice the size... then download it and look at the actual size
of the file
nphilipp I assume this is a update version, even though it is suppose to be the full version
you can always download older packages from koji.fedoraproject.org (for F7 and later)
nphilipp thus when I try to install it on a new machine I dont get the entire package... this size inconsistency is confirmed in a few other observations. The 4.6mb version is the update version, not the entire version
there is no distinction between update and "full" packages. All packages are full, there are only some older and some newer packages.
both kernel-devel packages I have (kernel-devel-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 and kernel-devel-2.6.22.1-27.fc7) are about 15mb in size when installed
0.9.91.2
nphilipp does the module install on your machine?
module *make
I often make modules and didn't have a problem in the past.
hey, trying to install fedora 7 but anaconda doesn't get past the set root password screen (i'm using the minimal install CD and it downloaded the stage2 file sucecssfully) - it stops with the error 'Unable to read package metadata' 'cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository:
anaconda-base-200705271038.i386'
thanks anyway
help !
if all else fails, ask in the Review bug ;-)
que?
did someone want me yesterday?
that's what I'm going to do
or today for that matter
network install?
Sory, do you know any programs that can check my HDD's quality?
nphilipp I know its asking allot, but can you try and build the http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/bios_rr2300.htm module in the bottom... the instructions I used are http://rafb.net/p/eiKG8545.html and are VERY easy to use
http://pastebin.archlinux.org/10823 --- does anyone know what could be causing this error?
did you confirm the paths are correct and those modules exist ?
i386 or x86_64?
i386
openstandards I cant answer your question but what build and version are you using?
at a guess, i'd say you're missing a pam package
http://pastebin.archlinux.org/10824 -- output of pam
hm, yeah it's there
whats the command to check the version most use flags such as --v
nphilipp if you can compile the module without warnings thats the clue I am looking for... if not, then I think we have a bug
ELFCLASS32 looks suspicious to me. using x86_64?
7 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
ok, we had to move someones /var folder to its own partition and now the customer is complaining about mail recieving is delay, is there somewhere in a mail configure file or cpanel where we can or need to change something, is this an issue with cpanel or the os?
yeah keep on thinking i'm using i386
yum list pam\*
i use i386 for my desktop...
k
that'd be the first (non upstream) module I see that compiles without warnings ;-P
what should be the --physicalextentsize when creating a VolumeGroup ? (partitioning with LVM)
the default is 4MB, while IIRC the value that the fedora partition manager uses is 32MB
nphilipp can you email me at big_green_jelly_bean-=at=-yahoo.com
obviously it won't let me install the module because I don't have such a device
nphillipp then I can get the device working, and then start working on the reason why... cause eventually I will want to use more SATA cards
it built just fine -- the key was "make KERNELDIR=/lib/modules/2.6.21-1.3228.fc7/build ..."
let me try that
make install will build the module, install it, run depmod and rebuild your initial ramdisk
I don't think there's more I can help
nphillip the kerneldir is just under build
http://pastebin.archlinux.org/10826
yes
build is a symlink to the dir that needs to be used
pastebin of the yum list
ekk
i noticed both i386 and x86 are installed
have fun everyone
ok, we had to move someones /var folder to its own partition and now the customer is complaining about mail recieving is delay, is there somewhere in a mail configure file or cpanel where we can or need to change something, is this an issue with cpanel or the os
removed all of the i386 packages
can fedora be setup for clustering?
as it shared host processing of a task..
as in*
openstandard what do you have files when you do "ls /lib/modules/2.6.21-1.3228.fc7/build"
ohh wait
depends on the task
well say i wanted to "break" some enryption
encryption*
on my own system out of interest, not on someone elses machine
Sure, given there's a program to "break some enryption" that takes advantage of openmosix or mpi, etc.
a word of advice - in the future you want to say I am doing number theory research into large prime numbers
breaking encryption is illegal in some countries
regardless of why you are doing it
nphilip's statement was on my last kernel, and not the latest
I see the point, but as far as im aware only certain encryption would be illegal, and that is not the breaking, its the fact of bypassing copy protection
is this enough in order to re-partition the HDD? dd if=/dev/zero0 of=/dev/sdb bs=512 count=1
but anyway the program itself must support clustering then?
that will wipe your MBR if I am reading it right
i know there is dist-cc for compiling..
there are multiple solutions for performance clustering
well a live Cd would be ideal as i wouldnt need to install an OS on each machine
Beowulf is one
linuxhpc.org is a starting pint
Man_at_Arms, yes i want to repartition a disk with LVM
might have access to one of those quad quad core machines to join the cluster too if its on a live cd..
yum install kernel-headers
oops
is this how i remove the existing partition table?
why not use fdisk ?
Man_at_Arms, fdisk or parted? which i should use?
I prefer fdisk myself
what you want to do is create some partitions and present them to lvm with pvcreate
Man_at_Arms, i have only used parted. But i 'll try fdisk
yes
just be aware you can only have four primary partitions
actually two partitions, one for /boot and the other for the rest
Man_at_Arms, thanks i know
if you want more you need to use logical partitions in an extended part
Man_at_Arms, this is exactly how my current setup is
[root@Beast rr2310pm]# make KERNELDIR=/lib/modules/2.6.22.1-27.fc7/build
*** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
how do i reinstall cpanel?
Im missing something
ON a fedora 7 box I put the html files into /var/www/html right, but I can only write there as root? What did I miss?
if i reinstall cpanel, does it mess up all the mail in the cpanel mailboxes
it's a proprietary software, contact cPanel for support
well, no one in their irc channel is paying attention and i don't want to sit on the phone for hours waiting on them
i can't hang up the lines like that, i'm kinda at work
We don't know anyhting about cpanel.
what is the purpose of having more that one Volume Groups in an LVM setup?
or to phrase this better, are there any benefits of have more than one volume groups?
ON a fedora 7 box I put the html files into /var/www/html right, but I can only write there as root? What did I miss? I installed nagios and it's working fine, but I thought now that I have apache I could create an 'intranet' homepage there too
a volume group is an aggregate of disks. You can do snapshots and things like that within a volume group, you can't do a snapshot across volume groups (afaik)
sdodson, hmm I am not that expert yet on LVM to use such things. I'll use just one group for now. thanks for the info
one other thing. I finally created a partition sdb2 with parted. this partition will be initialized so to be used by LVM. My question is: should i enable any special flags for it? for example in parted there is a flag called "lvm"
should i enable it for the partition /dev/sdb2 ?
partitions that are part of an lvm are generally type 8e, but I don't think that really matters.
I've never used parted
http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/manual/html_chapter/parted_7.html#SEC65
sdodson, is it required to enable a flag when using fdisk?
i'd guess you need to enable the lvm flag then
right
ohgod i hope this works
what app does fedora use for package management?
rpm and yum
one last question. when do i create a filesystem on the partition that will be initialized for LVM?
ta
and how do reference the volumes? mkfs.ext3 /dev/MyVG/MyLV ?
ya
sdodson, 'ya' means that i create the filesystem on the logical volumes and i reference them as i wrote above, right?
hello
ya, once you've created a logical volume you should have those device nodes
If I was to remove a newer version of linux so that I can install an older version, which directories should I move to a backup directory?
GreenJelly, do you have your /home on a separate partiton
yes and root
Hiya, wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. When I try and boot up fedora, I get to the graphical boot screen (ie when it has the progress bar) but that screen just flashes on and off, does anyone know why this could be?
so what is important that you need to keep
since you have it on a separate partition
you can reinstall and not format that partition
anyone know how to remove old kernels?
rpm -e
how do I list stuff?
whereas /root you will need to
or does anyone know what the graphical screen is called so i can try and google it properly? Its the screen with the progress bar under it, you can click on the down arrow to get all the text whats currently booting ?
lol
mitchellj, hold on
k thanks VileGent
Surfer666, list =ls
rhgb
what video card
I mean like list stuff that rpm has :P
man rpm
me? its a onboard intel video chip
re the boot gui screen. When you boot you can hit 'e' during the grub screen and edit the kernel line removing the 'rhgp' option which will then just boot in text mode (until X comes up)
rpm -ql romname
ah okay thanks
hey guys, I just did my first script that actually does anything, someone wanna take a look at it and tell me where I can improve on it?
boot and swap are on seperate partitions
The reason I got to remove the old version, is because everytime I try to use a RPM of the old version, I get the "a newer version exists"
even though Im on the older version
http://outtaluck.homelinux.com/country-script ---the shell script
GreenJelly, more detail
k trying to remove the rhgb to see if i can find any errors in teh logs thanks
is there any way to uninstall a package
then come back i have something else to try
Surfer666, yes
man rpm
man yum
like I have the .rpm sitting in front of me
bah, network config in vmware, is a biatch
wtf is rute?
read it it is good
Surfer666 try kyum
GreenJelly, need more detail
does anyone know where you configure the ethernet settings?
in vmware?
kyum?
vmware-config.pl
OuttaLuck, you need more quotes; i see lots of useless uses of cat|grep; use a tmpdir instead of clobbering the currentdir
VileGent; you know that I am stuck with the new version, and that it wont complete a module update... so I want to re-install the 21-1 version... I have a working version of the kernel, but I cant install anything else, because it says there is a newer version and that version is the 2.6.22
version that I am having problems with
yes but what program is telling you there is a new version
basically ever 686 version of the software on this page
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=8692
*every
j #kde
GreenJelly, reinstall f7
uhff sorry guys
VileGent then the upgrade program would just push me too the newest version of fedora that doesnt work
*update
dont update the kernel
yum --exclude=kernel update
don't update the kernel?
why not :
Surfer666, shut up
seesh
GreenJelly, has a specific problem
I was asking if there was anything wrong with it
but when I yum kernel-devel I would get the new verson of it, and not the last version
hi VileGent
Anyone care to tell me how to *fix* this or something heh http://pastebin.ca/629335
surfer666 dont mind VileGent, he is as frustrated as me... we have a very specific issue we have spent hours triing to fix
but if you only use the default version
VileGent the 3228 version works GREAT!
I got an idea
GreenJelly, but the 3228 has been removed from the mirrors
Ill just yum uninstall all the files on that page
no
and then install the versions of koji
`Robert: uh,.. yum install wine
koji is developemnt
ahhh crap
doesn't work -- not found in repositories
`Robert: you don't install rhel packages in fedora
oh shit
`Robert: bs.
lets see if we can find the 3228 kernel and kernel-devel files
Thought I was in Rhel
damn :/
hey szec
haha thanks :P
how so I specify to yum to be more specific
say a certain version of something
man yum
like I have kernel-\*.x86_64 but I want only 2.6.21
I've been scrolling through it...
Surfer666, you know the 2.6.21 has vulnerbilities
I want to remove it because I'm on 22
guess I wasn't specific enough :P
no leave it
well I'm running low on space... I need to figure out what to remove
it will be removed on the next kernel update
Its bad when I know all the regulars here... I really want to thank Vilegent, Szec, mutk, and all the other people who have helped me out. You guys are amazing... and I cant express how appreciative I have been... If you want, and we get this problem fixed, I will send you all a gift for your
help
sorry but does kernel 2.6.21 had vuln ??
yes
i take visa, mc, and american express
oh my god
GreenJelly, at this point reinstall f7
2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 , are u talking about this kernel ?
heh, that was my assessment yesterday
szec send me a email hosting at big_green_jelly_bean-at-yahoo.com
i was kidding .. i won't take your money
anisfarhana, hold on
szec, VileGent has it come down to re-installing
sure sir sure...
szec I was going to send you a $10 gift card to newegg... I think thats fair...
hold on i will dig up the link
szec it would make me feel good
thanks anyway .. but that's ok, i appreciate the thought
just walk outsiode and help someone else less fortunate
whether anyone can actually exploit a given vulnerability is a whole other kettle of fish
szec I dont work, Im on disability... I volunteer, for a not-for profit company... Im fixing their website... its http://ruralinc.org
hello sir
i can't get you on it..what are u trying to tell me ?
remember there are several layers to get through
damn dreamweaver cs3 has high system requirements
yes but they are still hackable
Multiple vulnerabilities have been identified in Fedora, which could be exploited by attackers to bypass security restrictions, disclose sensitive information or cause a denial of service. These issues are caused by errors in Kernel. For additional information, see : FrSIRT/ADV-2007-2105 -
FrSIRT/ADV-2007-1987
szec I spend 20-40 hours a week on it... its a real mess, got allot of pages to update, and the person before me was an amazing Graphic Designer, but didnt know how to build a system
that is not really good
http://www.frsirt.com/english/advisories/2007/2182 , i read it here
Szec, do you have the absolute newest version of the kernel... the 2.6.22 version?
nice. always good to give back to the world
or do you have the 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7
both
anisfarhana, securityfocus.com
szec where you able to compile that module on the 22 version?
hey guys i'm still having a lot of trouble with my system.
if anyone was here earlier
GreenJelly, replace the menu images with actual accessible text.
i stopped my uninstallation of a few things, and all my software was removed
so now everything is screwed up
i tried a media upgrade
and that didn't work either
actually 2.6.22 is not available in current fedora repos .. maybe dev
does anyone here play Neverwinter Nights???
i'm screwed , what should i do ? yum update kernel ?
try rpm -q --changelog kernel
hey zcat... I want to thank you for your help this past few weeks... if you want, send me a email at big_green_jelly_bean-at-yahoo.com and Ill send you a gift
wait .. nevermind .. 2.6.22.1-27.fc7
that's the one i compiled it on yesterday
yep
rpm -q --changelog kernel|less rather
GreenJelly, no thanks - you appear to need it more
zcat I have everything I possibly would want
i can see a lots of text there
u want me to paste it ?
zcat I am very blessed
what version of the kernel is xen at these days?
be back .. tea and a p
never mind I yummed it
look for the .21 release. if it's 2.6.21.4 or greater, both vulns are closed
szec so I re-install it, leave my last 3 drives alone... setup my system like last time... and then update to 2.6.22...
there is many lines there..i dont know where to look into
rpm -q --changelog kernel|less will let you scroll from the top or most recent changes
yes, pastebin it if you want
szec after that, we build the module, re-mount the raid 5 array, and then we will be all set
thanks and i will paste you what i got at the first screen of "less"
http://rafb.net/p/6L3JIY21.html
nothing more recent than Thu May 24?
how to paste out rpm -q --changelog kernel|less into a file ?
ok, have to research that alittle more
anisfarhana, http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/24818
rpm -q --changelog kernel kernel_changelog.txt
i got only until Thu May 24
which is apparently 2.6.21.2
so indeed, your kernel is vulnerable to the attacks VileGent has linked
uhffff!!!
here , full list http://rafb.net/p/qa6eBX98.html
*but* both are specific to certain conditions
any recommendation or suggestion about it sir , please ?
* Thu May 24 2007 Dave Jones davej@redhat.com
- 2.6.21.2
anisfarhana, update to the 2.6.22 kernel
looks like the last rebase for .21
so i guess yum install kernel will do that ?
I really need to save some space :|
how can Fedora take up 7GB
ok, reinstalling... Ill log into vent on my other computer when I get so far in the installation...
a yum update should install .22
hold on , im going to paste something for you
Surfer666, all the crap you have installed
VileGent, one question... how do I ensure that sdc, sdd, sde and sdf are untouched in the re-installation of fedora from the dvd
if not, yum clean metadata and retry yum update
1' failed.
I don't have any thing installed :|
http://rafb.net/p/S0e3cj34.html
do u think that is okey ?
Surfer666, yum clean all
okay I ran that
if possible , i just want to update my kernel
VileGent sdf wont show up because it doesnt have the module but these 4 drives make up my raid array with all my data, so I am going to have to restore this RA after installation
hm, you should be picking up kmod-nvidia as well
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/phenom-x4/
try yum clean metadata and retry yum update
what did yum clean all do?
remove all the yum rpms you have cached
yum update will update everything on my machine..correct ?
right
Surfer666 google "yum clean" linux
so you prefer to update all rather than just the kernel ?
daily, yes
ah okay
surfer I dont mean to say RTFM... but I find it VERY important to read up on everything that these guys tell me...
haha
Surfer666 that way I start to see the bigger picture
downloading 140 packages and install 3 packages , i will follow you Mr Expert
the last guy pisted me a guide that was like 600 pages
GreenJelly, Surfer666 has been told that more than once
I don't really feel like readin ga book
so thanks a lot straw and VileGent
Surfer666, and we dont feel like spoonfeeding you
and we wont
you should run 'yum update' once per day or so
Surfer666 you got to learn how to learn... you dont read the whole thing.. you browse it, but the key to learning is to brows the right portions
you will be /ignored
hi all guys!
i did it before..as my daily routine..but after yum update screw up my kde , i scared to yum update again
then when you do have a real problem no one will pay attention from all your wolf cries
that was a result of your upgrade path, iirc
then when you do have a real problem no one will pay attention from all your wolf cries
anisfarhana, *yuck*
you couldnt possibly read all the material they told you to, and do the required work... so you do practices, you teach/discuss with other people the details, and you read the bold or underlined topics... the first paragraph in each chapter... the options... etc...
f7 ?
straw over the last few years
in a perfect world, that *should* work. but...
well going to reinstall... If you never see me again, its because I threw my computer out of the window
bye
location of winodw??
2 floors up
yes , miracles huh ?
yes updating since fc1 until fedora 7
right
and i know irc.freenode.net when i was install fc1 on my machine , something like adv there
1' failed.
u don't like coffee..ok change to coke now
--- isn't that a city on madagascar?
it is my real name
are you from madagascar?
hoho , no sir
ah, north pole i see
currently Asia
asian santa?
anisfarhana, mountain dew 2x sugar 2x caffeine
noticed
ok then..take plain water..no more comment ;p
yuck
heh
wtf
mountain dew = bad.
i want some quad-core and i want it now. :P
what is MD ?
Maryland ?
mountain dew... what else?
Mountain Dew
MD - lemon aight ?
lemon-lime yes
with 2x sugar, 2x caffeine than coke
i think MD is energic drinks..correct ?
cancergic
very true!
you should stop taking MD , a lots of sugar
anisfarhana, is i do i die
take plain water or milk instead ;p
i hope yum update didn't screw my kde again
anisfarhana, i drink a gallon of milk a day
yuck
do you smoke ?
notmilk.com
http://news.independent.co.uk/health/article2586652.ece
the truth of our dairy industry with come out soon enough in the mainstream
everyone drink milk , and it was when you a baby
no
i didn't
seriously u didnt!?
"Sodium benzoate...when mixed with the additive vitamin C...causes benzene, a carcinogenic substance."
anisfarhana, nope i dont smoke
cow milk is natures perfect food for baby cows .. not humans
that's what human breast milk is for
good! 5 stars to you!
straw thats why i dont drink coke
i guess if you want to be a baby cow maybe it's for humans
check the label on your MD
yeah im talking about human breast milk
i was watching a science show that proved if you were to limit your food supply you would live 2x longer
no sodium benzoate
you even don't drink human breast milk ?
limiting your diet switched on a gene that prevents aging
not now no .. when i was a baby yesd
oh this people not just geek , but they also good in science..
really? hm, cool
i drink rice milk .. soy milk is harmful
i do lots of research into health and food .. we're mostly fed poisons these days
gotta keep the human cattle in line!
how about fast food ? McD for example
keep the people mentally slow, so they don't question, keep them fat and unhealthy so they're unmotivated to act
you must be kidding ..
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/healthreport/stories/2007/1969924.htm is interesting too
i'd rather eat rocks
uhf
hunting season is soon, another bambi in the freezer
seen the movie supersize me?
that is only for US
I am getting desperate, hope some one here can help. I am running FC5 and am installing Snare for fedora linux 1.1.2 via RPM. Though I am unable to install it as it says rtld(GNU_HASH) is missing. yum whatprovides rtld turned up nothing as well as lots
of searching on Google. Any one have a clue what rtld is?
yea .. riiiiight.
you actually believe that?
im not sure about McD at US , but do they really have 'pork' on big mac?
no
ill treated cattle
diseased and mistreated
nope
makes for a delicious burger don't you think?
Cryption, since FC5 is dead we cant help you
i might be starving now , no more dinner
i just have big mac for my dinner...
mcdonalds meat is actually fairly high quality ..
mcdonalds is a global publicly traded company with one legal objective .. more profit
ok back on topic
same
reports of people getting infected from your food tends to hurt profits, so mcdonalds and other companies do not skimp in this regard
common misconception though
ok back on topic
anyone else seeing this yum error about glibc? Error: No Package Matching glibc.i686
can I move data which are between Logical Volumes when i boot from a livecd?
anyone get the second life client running on x86-64 fedora?
PSUdaemon, sounds like a out of sync mirror
yum clean all and try again
anyone could help me with logical volumes in fedora 7?
Hiya, wonder if someone can point me in the right direction. I'm trying to get Xorg working on fedora, with a Samsung LCD TV, but it just keeps 'flashing' i'm using a intel i810 embedded graphics chop on board. The fedora setup worked fine but when i boot fedora the rhgb and Xorg just
flashes
ie continually flashing black / graphics / black / graphics
Which driver are you using?
i810
Try the intel driver.
i think that is the intel driver
I think so too
No, i810 and intel are 2 separate drivers.
ahh ok
:O
thanks
i810 - Intel 8xx integrated graphics chipsets, so is the other driver just called intel ?
Yes.
intel is a newer version of i810.
ty, will try
im want to remove a smaller hdd from my machine and put in a new one, is there a way to relocate the data from the old hdd to a second one pending i put in a new hdd. I used the raid setup to make a logical volume during the install process.
It'll be easier if you put in the new drive, and have them both there.
hey
Then you can just create a new PV, absorb it into the VG, and release the old one.
i got a few questions about dekstop
ok just tried the intel driver and i get "No modes found on either pipe"
Okay, report that against the intel driver please.
what do you mean sorry ?
As a bug.
oh its a bug ?
ivazquez, say i would like to remove the old hdd now, i have more then enough free space to transfer the data
thought it was just my bad config
Well, add your config and log to the bug report.
k thanks
Enough free space where?
i have 3 hdd's in there right now
2 - 40gig 1 - 20, i want to remove the 20 gig
Are they all being used by Fedora?
mitchellj sorry, how do I change i810 and put intel?
Is /boot on the 20G drive?
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
i think it is yeah, not sure how to check that
should I just put "intel" where it says "i810" ???
Yes.
oh, k
http://rafb.net/p/O6gC4Y98.html
i want to remove the 20gig
You're in luck. /boot is on a 40G.
hehe ok, wouldnt work if it had been on the 20%
?
It would have been less fun.
hahaha
Now post pvdisplay, vgdisplay, and lvdisplay.
http://rafb.net/p/8mVlem19.html
Alright. Do you have at least 25GB free in your FS?
90G 46G 40G 54% /
dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
40gigs free
Well, to give you a safe margin of error, we'll chop 30GB off.
ok
You'll need to use resize2fs to reduce the FS by 30GB, then you'll need to use lvreduce to carve off 25GB.
resize2fs /dev/VolGroup--/LogVol00 60G
lvreduce -L -25G
Write these down for now.
ok
Then you need to actually remove the drive.
vgreduce VolGroup00 /dev/sdb
Then you can shut down and remove the drive.
ok
Then you can expand the LV and FS again, but those can be done live.
so vgreduce VolGroup00 /dev/sdb will dump its data onto the other drives getting it ready for removal%
Correct.
can i do this remotly or i need to physically be there
You will have to be booted in rescue mode with the drives unmounted.
i have been getting this error for days on end. i have yum cleaned all many times.
ah, ok
So physical presence is recommended unless you know what you're doing.
yeah ill need to go over there
Hey!
Can anyone tell me the vesa mode for the F7 live cd?
The option for it?
what are the commands to re-expand the volgroup to its 80gig
Is anyone here?
yes.
We can deal with that after. You can reboot the system normally once you've removed the drive.
hehe ok
What are the options for the LiveCD to boot into vesa mode?
But just so you know, you use lvexpand and resize2fs.
thanks, ill man those
Is there anything other than PARTIMAGE that would be a GUI version of DD specifically for F7 or compatible with that version? I found partimage-static whatever that is but I cannot figure out how to get in the field where I tell it the image name
DD copies all of the partition even unused space so I do not want to use that to clone this partiular drive, maybe I just have to use Windows Ghost in this situation?
mondo
amanda
What are the options for the LiveCD to boot into vesa mode?
Does ANYONE know?
it's not that hard of a question.
when you boot up the disk what are the options it gives you?
the default one.. copy to memory, and then verify and copy to memory
then press tab to enter in more boot options
so press tab then try typing help
there isnt help
it only gives me the boot options to type in
somthing to do with anaconda text only install, i'm guessing
Did you try "vesa"?
jsut vesa?
ive tried mode=vesa, xforcevesa driver=vesa xdriver=vesa
FTR, I have absolutely no clue what it should be.
Worst case you could boot into RL3, change it, then switch to RL5.
Well, whenever the GUI comes up my monitor says out of range.
how would I do that?
I tried the command init 3 as well
are the contents of the /sys directory created on every boot?
Add a 3.
/sys is a virtual FS.
just a 3?
ivazquez, on the livecd?
ivazquez, i am copying a system on a new hdd but the relevant howto does not write anything about the /sys dir
The live disc is like a real install, just with an extra package or 2.
ivazquez, so i should just create a /sys on the new-disk
do i jus tadd a 3?
Arv3n, yes
so just type in "3" whenever i press tab to do the options?
Yes.
Well a space and then a 3.
ok, ill go try that. =O
ivazquez, thanks
if it works then thanks, if not, ill be back. .
Don't forget to add the proper entry in /etc/fstab for it.
hey... forgot, I have files on this stupid machine... over 24 hours to copy them all... I am going to try a few more things while this gets going... hell I have nothing else to do:-p
I would like to know the command that tells you which kernel version you are running
uname -a
ty
Is Fedora one of the most used distros in the business world?
you'll get banned if you dont disable that stupid autoaway msgs.
Or is it more Red Hat Enterprise Edition?
it seems to be better supported in some respects then ubuntu , from what i've been looking at
like i can find a flash or java rpm but no .deb packages
But I think ubuntu is more widely adopted by the public
fedora is like a testing ground for redhat, from what i've read
hi everyone.
I've been trying to set up samba on Fedora and am having absolutely no luck.
I opened the little samba management widget provided in the menu.
I added a share.
I added a user.
I created a password.
On my windows box, i can SEE the share.
It prompts me for a username and password.
This works.
But when I try to actually double-click to ENTER the share...
Nope.
The network path was not found.
any ideas?
try in here #samba ?
I have no trouble with samba on other distros.
I usually use suse, but moved to fedora for this server because it has a newer kernel with a driver I need.
Solaris444, selinux
I thought as much.
What can I do about selinux?
setenforce 0
right.
just to test if it is selinux
i'm assuming the share is in /home ?
it is /home/netshares/Data Entry
should I get rid of the spaces?
well.. for one yes
ok
two... /home is protected space (by selinux
)
right
well, I take it selinux set to 0 is disabled?
no, permissive
ah ok
well setting it to disabled allowed me in.
problem is now that i can see the entire netshares home folder.
:/
well.. yes
I really only want a couple of folders WITHIN it.
Is there any way to turn off home folder sharing?
now you see why selinux is *Great* ;-)
lol
LOL!
Solaris444, well... yes.. it's in the smb.conf
I've never encountered it before.
being mostly a suse user, they use "apparmour"
should I leave selinux on permissive do you think?
no
setenforce 1
it was for testing/illustration only
you need to a) edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and comment out the [homes] section
~line 252
ivazquez mondo is more adavnced than partimage I assume because it will burn to Cds and tapes
right, will do.
mondo is pretty cool
Solaris444, ok.. after you do that only what you define in the s-c-samba will be shared
now, to be able to share out of /home you need to switch an selinux boolean (if you read the smb.conf... it would have told you this)
setsebool -P samba_enable_home_dirs 1
ah.
is that a command?
this will persistently allow samba to access home_root_t and user_home_dir_t
yes.. that is a command
ok.
let me go do those things.
hey everyone, just installed fedora and my resolution should be 1920x1200 which 'Screen Resolution' in gnome says it is, but Display says its 1600x1200. Also, the screen shows as wider than the physical monitor and lets you scroll across it.
so you a) edit the smb.conf to not share homes b) set selinux to allow you to use /home and then setup your needed shares in s-c-samba ... most likely you should restart smb also: /sbin/service smb restart
how can i fix it so it displays as true 1920x1200?
kalleth, select a generic monitor that is similar to yours and then select the correct resolution
and to restart X, logout and then ctrl-alt-backspace?
kalleth, if it never offers 1920x1200... you'll need to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf ... and if that doesn't work you need to check the log to see why the mode is being rejected (/var/log/Xorg.0.log
oh it offers 1920x1200
ha
'the greeter application appears to be crashing' looping message now
so check the log to see what is going on
how do i get out of gdm/xwindows permanently back to a console?
grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log; grep WW /var/log/Xorg.0.log
ctrl-alt-f1
it might keep trying every 5 minutes or something... you can kill prefdm, but you should also be able to fix the issue before it tries to spawn again
3d driver claims to not support visual

i have an ATI radeon card and haven't installed the ati proprietory drivers?
is there a generic driver i can use or somrthing?
kalleth, well... they don't even work with f7 right now
kalleth, so you are using the radeon driver... which might not support the resolution to want to run at
does anyone know how to get it to work?
Ah.
kalleth, system-config-display --reconfig --noui
gdm-restart
could i use one of the system-config-* programs?
kalleth, that should at least get your GUI back.. and you can continue to try modes.. i dunno
:|
kalleth, the ATi fglrx driver has been b0rked since f7 was released; so you are stuck with using the radeon driver (which is really not that bad)
