aha, head seems to do the job - this is what i wanted: "last | grep 'system boot' | head -n 5"
the "grep -m 5" doesnt work or i am using it wrong?
hmm...
hey gurus has there been any problems with ndiswrapper on F7?? ever since I upgraded to F7 my wifi hasnt worked.
looks like the man page supports the -m 5 = " | head -5 " assertion
When grep stops after NUM matching lines, it outputs any trailing context lines.
has anyone ever worked on a headless terminal? or that is the closest description I can give it
/server irc.tveps.net
a "headless terminal" isn't that an oxymoron?
EvilBob, i believe so
I promise you, I've done it :-p
LOL
a box with out a video card that you ssh into
gimme a site where I can host a pic and I'll show
but that pretty much disqualifies it as a terminal
no.....I mean, I'm logged into a box and it doesn't show on that box anyone is logged in
bayimg.com
thank you CountX
root?
how do I upgrade from FC5 to F7 if I don't have a dvd reader?
you dont?
use the cd's
np
boot.iso and a network instal
l
EvilBob, where do I get that iso? I've never installed fedora b4
is there a way in fedora's installer to specify more dtailed partitioning info? specifcally, i want to speficy block sizes, and the number of blocks in a partition. not just 100MB or other vaguery
you should read the install guide
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/
yes
hehe how/
double click on the entry "Empty space" in the partitioning screen, instead of clicking new
http://bayimg.com/AaEdIaaBJ
drbd acts all funny with different sized target partitions
frozty_sa, doesn't make sense to me
I can tell you how to do it, if you want :-p
ahh. this is FC6 (should have said this earlier) all i see for options on the partitioning page is "Remove all and create default|Remove linux parts and create default|Use free space and create default|Custom layout"
custom layout doesn't allow me to specify much custom detail
frozty_sa, what is the purpose of it?
I dunno....being weird?
it happened purely by accident, mind
maybe i'm missing something obvious though
custom layout
EvilBob, isn't there a dist upgrade option in yum?
no
isn't there any way I can do it from cli?
abusing yum in that way is not suggested by anyone sane
how is that abuse?\
it is not what yum was designed for
works perfect in ubuntu, apt-get dist-upgrade
to many DB writes and such.
so go use ubuntu
i prefer apt to be honst alwyas have.. but apt has similar db problems
I do on my systems, this is a system at work
MTecknology, we know
how can I do the equivilant in FC5?
you can't
what command would i use to remove "welcome" and "home" from "welcome to my home" using the numerical character position? ie take out character 0-6 and 13-17 ?
MTecknology, possible for those familiar with it, otherwise you don't
you don't know how to use google and I am not going to tell you how to FUBAR your system
if you really want to do it that way, upgrade fc5 to fc6, and then fc6 to f7
fc6-f7 is really not suggested
I know
Perhaps cut?
nah I wouldnt do that.
frozty_sa, i don't care how I go about it, I just need to get it done - I've gotten enough flames in here for still using FC5
then why didyou suggest it
just stick with fc6
but if he wants an upgrade, then there is an option for him
who cares about flames.. sheesh
use the damn DVD
or the boot.iso
true dont be cheap go buy a DVD rom drive.
I can't use the damned dvd - i said that
You can boot from a USB stick
no
then use the damned boot.iso
Or PXE/net install, no disk necessary.
i couldnt get that to work.
yeah PXE works
speaking of which, how do I make fedora install boot from a usb stick? ricky
but than again Im brain dead.
to lazy to read so he can't do anything
ricky, you know of a good guide for doing that?
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/install-guide/f7/en_US/sn-making-media.html
see can't even use google
gotta love fedora solved..
you are welcome
they tell you everything from installing it to giving birth to it. LOL
except when ndiswrapper doesnt work anymore.
yeah the guy who ran that moved on
yah it is..
google = tried for a while but all instructions I ended up with weren't truly specific and/or detailed (or new)
thanks ricky, that's what i was looking for
Anyone know the best ipod management tool in Fedora?
As mentioned, http://www.fedorasolved.org/installation-solutions/installing-fedora-using-pxe-images/
um
Not really using PXE, but looks easier.
hi
yah I read that. i think its a hardware issue on my system
Hi!
ricky, will that hurt my system, or is it an actual upgrade?
what?
is fedora core the right secure linux web hosting operating system for me? i just got a new computer with windows vista on it (my old one had ubuntu linux), and im still trying to decide which distrobution im going to get.
It won't hurt your system if you follow it properly.
Doug52392, short answer yes
i want one that is good for home and server use
ricky, i just wanted to make sure it won't erase anything
Doug52392, yes
first delete teh windows partition
If you want the latest and greatest, then yes. But just know, Fedora has a short dev cycle and you'll be upgrading to the next release of Fedora at least once a year.
but first leave the channel then come back after windblows is gone. LOL
snarkster, now dont get nasty
hi, is there in F7 repo app to handle radio FM with btv cards ?
lol
kidding really just kidding
does it dual boot ok with vista?
yes it does
Yup, it should.
is that a windows question??
snarkster, has windows installed too
hmm i just use qemu emulated for a very few things.
like password protected rars.
i tried debian today, it didnt even install right, and crashed my MBR. (good thing the restore CD works, i got the windows bootloader back without even formatting)
Before doing any upgrade you should back up your data
does anyone know a good command to split a large text file into parts, (just 1 word per line no formatting)
EvilBob, yup... I was getting flamed pretty bad when I was asking how to do upgrades from FC5
to do backups*
which version do i download? i have a intel processor
the only sane way to upgrade IMO is to use the anaconda installer
what model intel processor?
EvilBob, which isn't an option i guess... I haven't found the iso you were talking about
pentium d
it is if you would just shut the hell up and read what people are saying to you
read the install guide
larer
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/
I just plugged in my ipod to F7 and it was automounted at computer/// but now I can't unmount it so that I can try to remount it with gtkpod. Anyone know what I should try?
EvilBob, I've been looking through that
is it a little more advanced than distros like ubuntu?
I right click on it in the file browser and click "umount" but it says it can't cause it is still in use, but nothing is using it.
EvilBob, do I want Live CD or Minimal CD boot media?
nvm
it's not like gentoo then
will my Linksys WAP54G PCI wireless card work? it doesnt in other distros because it has a RaLink Rt61 chipset
I doubt it Doug52392 but f7 supposedly does support that chipset
EvilBob, fedora/linux/releases/7/Fedora/i386/os/images/boot.iso - where's the site i dload from?
Doug52392, I picked up a us robotics 5422 usb dongle and it works great
will my wireless card work OK?
Finally found the damned dload link
is f7 the newest?
yes
Doug52392, look fedora is pretty much the top rung on the linux ladder but u use what you want to.
sorry was on the phone
i found it finally
glad you found it
and burned it
here we go....
Good luck
which one do i download?
i could have just threw in a dvd reader that we have if the server wasn't an old rackmount
what do you mean Doug52392 ?
where do i download the installer dvd or cd?
download the DVD
fedora.org as far as I know
fedoraproject.org
fedora.org is someone else
and make sure you get the version thats right for your hardware
fedora.org is someone else??
always has been
isnt fedora made by the same people who make red hat?
Er.. Fedora on a server?
yes
ricky, again... i woulda chose ubuntu myself
You don't mind updating it every 13 months or so for security fixes, etc.?
well in a manner of speaking Doug52392
Fedora is a commmunity project sponsored by Red Hat
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/install-guide/f7/en_US/sn-http-install-settings.html
this is where i'm at
what ip do i want to use?
The Fedora Project does have a number of RH employees, but it also has quite a few external people as well.
Choose a mirror: http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/publiclist/Fedora/7/
I can't get the TCP/IP configuration now!!!
where is the ISO DVD file?
In BitTorrent.
i dont like p2p programs, the upload rate is always higher than the download rate
SO.... I'll bet I'm going to get to dload all 5 CD's and burn them, then get to upgrade that way
So?
As long as the download rate is high...
where can i find official fedora 7 dvd labels
The wiki.
can i do migration, save/restore of fully virtualized guests?
14kbps
9kbps
"2400bps sucks" -- V.bis and Baudhead
11kbps download speed for the DVD, on a T3 connection
how should i partition it once i install it?
Doug52392, The word pathetic springs to mind. Diod you look at the Mirror list?
Doug52392, Auto partition. Accept defaults.
Did you open the proper port for it?
yes, its working ok now
700...600...500kbps
hi guys, i am having issues getting a raid0 md device to start up correctly
mdadm is saying that the device is active but not started
i cannot start it
and if i try to stop it, its saying that the device is still in use
Doug52392, http://docs.fedoraproject.org/ . Come back after refering to these docs there - especialy the Install Guide.
lsof doesn't show anybody using it
anybody good at mdadm can be of any help ?
how do I find the file that is running from a pid?
Look under /proc.
lsof | grep xxxx
thanks, I can see the files it uses that are loading into memory, which line would I see as the file actually running that is using al lthese other programs?
how do i auto start conky? do i have to write a script for /etc/init.d/ ?
you get that from ps
ps awx | grep xxx
where xxx is the PID of your process
ok all ... i am a retard, as im sure you're all aware ... the reason that it wasnt working with the chkconfig method is becasue i forgot to chmod +x so that it could even run
so its all set now !!!
your desktop environment should have a facility for autostarting apps
which DE are you using?
generalhan, gj retart
i know !!
generalhan, tftp sequel
everything is still not perfect however ... but im glad i got that taken care of
the only thing i have to figure out now is why eth0 wont come up on boot. it says failed no link present durring the boot. but as soon as it finishes the boot i just type in ifup eth0 and it works everytime ... i wonder why it fails at every boot ?
wolsni, fluxbox
i am guessing its in the startup file lol
brb
i think that's right
is there a file that i can look at to see the results of my last boot ? like all the scritps it ran and which ones succeeded and which ones failed ?
i saw them as they were scrolling by, but i want to see them stationary !
dmesg
thanks
/var/log/boot.log
i tried boot.log but didnt get the information from it that i was looking for
hello, i'm getting dependencie issue's whilst installing .rpm's generated by ATI's --buildpkg 8.39.4? http://rafb.net/p/oxJ03p23.html
what are you looking for?
can any1 help
Don't use that. Use livna's packages instead.
didnt know livna had 1
ifup eth0 is failing at every boot. and an initscript that im running scrolls by so fast that i cant see if its failing and why if it is failing
well, you're out of luck there I guess. initscripts are a little problematic wrt. logging.
try ifup eth0 from a console and see
it works once the system has booted.
but it fails when its attempted at boot
the driver in livna is 8.36.5, i need 8.39.4 no worrys
They must still be working on it then. It should be ready soonish.

dude
rotisserie chicken... or doritos. tough choice.
Chicken.
sun chips are so good
ivazquez; you want to play NWN, don't you? eh? eh? yeah?
I've never tried it.
And TBH, I don't feel like a multi-gigabyte DL right now.
it's not free
besides, multiplayer has a login and cdkey check
http://generalhan.pastebin.ca/633778 this is my last boot where it starts show things about eth0 ... does that look normal to you ? i have got to figure out why eth0 fails to come up at every boot
ivazquez; the full game is ~$30 USD (expansions, etc included)
anyway, just was curious
generalhan, do you have macs on the lan?
no
NEVER !
generalhan, you can disable that avahi thing then
ok ! you think that might effect the eth0 somehow ?
maybe
I had some awesome Broasted Chicken yesterday
i'm having awesome sun chips now
anyone know how I can prevent "yum info" command from croaking when there is a copyright symbol in the description of the package?
Update your yum.
file a bug?
It's been filed and fixed.
yum is latest version
ic
rpm -q yum
hlewis, fixed. 'yum info cups' doesn't spew chunks anymore.
yum-3.2.1-1.fc7
chicken it is. /me runs away
Hrm. That *should* be fine. echo ${LANG}
it only seems to give an error when cups is installed. I removed it and yum info cups worked
Interesting.
Okay, log a bug, giving that specific detail.
OK

downhillgames, what game is that?
membrive; neverwinter nights
native for linux
ok ty
mmhmm, it's not super expensive and still coming out with new content
Is there an ltsp user here?
I like Lineage 2, but the problem is that L2 haven't native client, and is hard run it with wine/wineX
NWN is more fun than WoW, imo. less boring spots to it
it's not quite mmo but if you get an active server there isn't much boredum
I dont like wow
me either
I tried to play but I dont reached 5 lvl
http://picasaweb.google.com/membrive/Lineage2 some pics about my char in l2
i had a lvl 25 Warlock but he was boring
I notice there is an iwl4965-firmware component listed in bugzilla but the package isn't avalible in any repo and doesn't show in koji should I file my bug that the 4965 card isn't recognized by F7 against it or the iwlwifi-firmware package?
Talk to EvilBob.
EvilBob, ping ;-)
membrive; i had no idea picasaweb existed! sweet!
looks like yum is fixed in yum-3.2.2-1.fc7 which is in testing
Okay, good to know.
guess I should have looked at bugzilla first :-)
Not enough people do.
i cant find documentation on how to disable it completely ... i found the config file where i can just disable IPv6
only for win... But well I use picasaweb as image hosting
I could've sworn that Google has a version for Linux...
Picasa runs on Linux. . .
membrive; picasa is on linux too
get the ucode from intellinuxwireless.org
I didnt know rharrison
its not as nice as digikam but hey...
ivazquez; they even put it in a repo
because google 3s us
EvilBob, are the atrpms good?
never
and my question is to which bugzilla component do I post my bug that the firmware isn't included?
Distribution
I think it is being handled, there is a iwl4965-firmware package up for review
OK, that's why I don't see it in koji then
but don't bother with the atrpms packages?
I would not suggest anyone but Axel Thimm ever touch atRPMs
at one time that was the only place you could get madwifi - I'm glad livna started hosting it
unfortunately they don't have packages for 2.6.22 yet
at one time you could only get black tar heroin in the worst parts of town also
:-)
yeah, I wish he had a "clean" repo that didn't replace things.
yeah does not want to play nice with others, big brain and bigger ego from my experience
Oh, I'm on the EPEL list...
so you know what i am talking about
yeah, that seemed to go down poorly
"localhost dhclient: DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67" is this trying to find a DHCP server on the 255.255.255.255 subnet ?
the package uses alternatives?
which of these do I want to rebuild the with or without alternatives one?
the ucode is just a file
I figured I'd try the package under review
at thats why I'm confused about the package using alternatives
no. on the local subnet
just grab the tarball, open it and mv the file to /lib/firmware path may be wrong
hmm ... i cannot get eth0 to work on boot ... this is sooo strange. ive never had so many issues with an install before
I just figure I'd help with testing
sure
did you install or upgrade?
install
FC7x_64 DVD
What chipset is in the card?
ok, thanks EvilBob I'll post any problems I have with the package to the review
for now... home
hi all, got a quick non-fedora question -- i just got this mobo -- the thing will just start and stop over and over when i have the 'cpupw' vcore power plugged in..
and ideas?
its a Tigon3
and the driver it should be using is the tg3?
yes
hello
and it is not working in what way?
im trying to change my kernel to 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 but i dont know how :/
on boot it fails when it trys the ifup eth0. but as soon as it finishes the boot i can run ifup eth0 from term and it works immediately
I have a similar issue here with my iwl4965 wireless
is it installed yet? if not run yum install kernel-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7
I have not found a solution yet
i dont understand ... i have never seen this before ... and it means that this initscript that i have been working with is pointless because it cant load if eth0 is down
it said Nothing to do.
"nothing to do?" A: When yum reports "nothing to do" what it's really saying is that the "package may already be installed" (or it doesn't exist), so there's nothing for it to do. (ask directly: rpm -q package).
check /etc/grub.conf and see if it is listed there
rpm -q kernel
what if i tried to put 'ifup eth0' into an initscript that runs at S99 or something like that ?
you ever tried something like that ?
I would give it a shot
it can't hurt anything
... ok lets see what happens !
it is a bit hackish however but you knew that
it is not listen there
i know it sux ... but im looking for whatever will make this work
is it listed when you run rpm -q kernel?
no
then it isn't installed
I bet it would not install becaus ethey already have a newer kernel installed
err i need that kernel for madwifi tho :/
we should see the output of the "rpm -q kernel"
[plex0r@plex0r-pc ~]$ rpm -q kernel
kernel-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7
kernel-2.6.22.1-27.fc7
see
you will need to boot to the older kernel
remove the newer
boot to 3194, remove the 2.6.22 and then install
then install the one you want
how do i remove the other?
rpm -e kernel-2.6.22.1-27.fc7
im on the 3194 now
or "yum remove kernel-2.6.22.1-27.fc7"
or yum remove kernel-2.6.22.1-27.fc7
we are typing the same stuff so I'll let EvilBob take it from here :-)
ok its removed
no run the install command that hlewis gave you before
s/no/now
[root@plex0r-pc plex0r]# yum install kernel-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
Nothing to do
[root@plex0r-pc plex0r]#
yum clean all
ok done that
now its downloading
oh wait..
i thought it was but its not
lol
membrive; http://picasaweb.google.com/downhillgames
great ... so i put it in an initscript .. and watch the boot ... of course it actually works the first time it attempts it this time ... and then when it runs the script it fails ... i may set this server on fire !!!
man this sucks
hold on
: ok
it could be that file is not on some of the mirrors still
ahh i see
membrive; back to playing WoW
what version was it?
yum info doesn't whow it
kernel-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7
s/whow/show/
downhillgames, wow? no thx XD
Im running a fairly new install of FC7 and Ive noticed "modprobe -q" is running all the time. and its 100% CPU usage most of that time. anyone know what thats about ?
download it here http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=8692
downhillgames, I go to sleep now, cya tomorrow :P
then "yum localinstall path/to/file"
at a guess, it loaded a module and something went wrong in the module's init function
do i need to download all those?
ah
no only the one you need
I have a bad feeling it could be nvidia mod
the module name should be listed on the modprobe command line
lsmod ?
I have a huge amount of modules loaded. Any idea how I might find which one is causing the problems ?~
ps $(pgrep modprobe)
/sbin/modprobe -q --
where is the config which loads all these crazy modules running ?
I see a few in /etc/modprobe.d but theres a lot more loaded than specified in that file
which script is run to attempt the ifup eth0 ? ... i think that if i just push that to a higher number in the run order that it will fix everything
network?
i thought so ... but i wanted to be sure before i started messing with more things that i could screw up
so if that works for me ... is it possible that it will work for your wireless doing the same thing ?
where is the list of modules set to load on boot?
theres a lot in here I really dont need
will I have to build my own kernel to get rid of these excess loaded modules ?
you can blacklist modules
what modules are there that you THINK you don't need?
bluetooth, floppy, etc
basically Im going to try remove them all until I find which one is causing modprobe to run constantly
anyone know how to add downloads to sourceforge?
can you think of a better way ?
anyone know how to add download releases to a sourceforge project?
ummm maybe ask sourceforge?
hi guys, im a lttle stuck, i setup an imap account in evolution and now i cant use evolution anymore cause it wont stop prompting me for a password
nobody there
its pretty straight forward..
I havent been able to find out how
brb reboot
admin menu, "file release" and then create release, then you upload a file to their release site and away you go
oh, didnt see that; thanks
actually, do the upload first iirc
Welcome to SourceForge support
lol
no dice ... i pushed it to 40 (rahter than 10) still didnt work ... then i pushed it to 60 and it didnt work ... i didnt want to go any further than that incase something else was relying on that
Timidity doesn't seem to be able to start esd.
it would appear the nvidia module is causing modprobe to get stuck on 100% cpu uage
lower is earlier
dont suppose anyone has a few wise gems as to the reason
but its only every other time now that it doesnt work ... and adding it to a sscript at 99 doesnt always work either it seems completely random
[achtung@localhost Desktop]$ timidity coming.mid
No such file or directory
Couldn't open Enlightened sound daemon (`e')
That being what I get when I try to play a midi file.
daveStyle, what nvidia module
i know ... i was trying to push it later to see if it was just running too early and thats why it wouldnt work
ehh the graphics nvidia drivers
from
part of kmod-nvidia etc
from
which repo like ?
from
daveStyle, uname -r
daveStyle, rpm -q kivan-release
kivan?
daveStyle, rpm -q livna-release
rpm -q kmod-nvidia
I just set up all of my multimedia in 10 minutes with fedorasolved and fedora 7. Fedora has really come a long way
kmod-nvidia-100.14.11-1.2.6.21_1.3228.fcs kmod-nvidia-100.14.11-1.2.6.22.1_27.fc7
You are welcome
If i have two physical drives, can I mount them to the same directory?
any idea ?
fcs?
daveStyle, answer the rest of my questions

robbins876, why'd you wanna do that? they'd clobber each other.

good God what a mess
those repo's arent all enabled
we hope not

i'm thinking about putting in a request to order a scsi dvd reader for our rackmount server, I need to know two things first. 1. Is it safe to use the dvd to upgrade from FC5 to F7? and 2. Is Fedora ever going to come with a safe cli upgrade option?
can anyone tell me how to "clean" my XFS partition?
MTecknology, not that we can see
using the DVD is the safest upgrade method
Structure needs cleaning"
VileGent, why?
fedora isnt meant for production environments
google either doesn't know or just doesn't care to help me. :o
there was actually some talk earlier about how that could happen, maybe for F8
errr
F9
so therefore why is it needed in the end
http://rafb.net/p/Wxjd1f20.html
yep
bbl
EvilBob, the idea would be doing it through yum or something similar?
so why do you need all of those repos
I was looking for a few packages which I figured might be in one of them. (never found it btw)
a mix of existing and new tools
i tried convincing them to convert to Ubuntu because apt-get -c dist-upgrade is all that's needed to do a complete upgrade
but if F8 or F9 is going to have it i might stop pushing
MTecknology, you should get them to install centos instead
you think kmod-nvidia installed from the /wrong/ repo or something ?
so you dont have to keep fighting this every year
just putting some ideas on the drawing board is as far as it got
when I run a yum update I get the following two problems and I dunno what I can do about them....can anyone help? Error: Package kudzu needs kernel 2.6.13, this is not available. and Error: Package hal needs kernel 2.6.15, this is not available.
anyone now if its possible to get activesync 4.5 to work through wine?
whizndr-, uname -r
[root@eclipse ~]# uname -r

please help me? *soft weeping*
whizndr-, sorry fc4 is dead
and has been for almost a year
I'm trying to update
from 4 to 5 then 5 to 6
LOL, whizndr- is even more bad off than you are
you cant there isnt any
but I don't have physical access to the box
godaddy?
EvilBob, how so?
no it is a box I own...but it is coloed
she has FC4
hey I'm getting this as I'm trying to update :-)
whizndr-, ya.... it sucks hu
mmmhmmm
what is the release schedule for fedora anyway
whizndr-: where is it coloed ?
whizndr-, like i said it has been dead over a year
can I jump from 4 to 6...lol
at my works data center
whizndr-: yum is not intended for doing release - release+1 upGRADES
but that is about an 8 hour drive away
whizndr-: ah
ouch
ya I'm trying to follow the wiki
Your colo doesn't do KVM-over-IP?
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/YumUpgradeFaq
darkfrog, why'd you choose xfs over ext3?
whizndr-: I don't care what the wiki says
zcat, for my myth box
darkfrog, how many terabytes?
no we have people there but I can't exactly ask them to upgrade my box for me
has my vast array of repo's possibly broke my install ?
daveStyle, good have
could have rather
zcat, got three 160gig drives and one 250gig in a LVM
anyone have experience syncing a nokia phone
zcat, just bought two 500gig drives to add to it.
daveStyle, at this point i think i would yum remove kmod-nvidia
I supposed I could install an older kernel
the command "yum clean all" clean up the downloaded packages that yum has downloaded or would i be commiting suicide to run it on a system that already works?
and reinstall it
darkfrog, didn't really need xfs then. xfs_check
zcat, know how to clean the fs?
which repo should I reinstall from ?
livan
zcat, says it can't find the command
livna
sorry anvil
they the best hosting going kinda thing ?
*newb*
darkfrog, install it. it's in a separate package just like the reiser utils are
uh oh
daveStyle, livna has always worked the most closely with the extras-everything repo
my ext3 partition is in read-only mode
...my drives are having issues. :o
what would be the downside to removing hal then reinstalling it?
I'll give it a shot so
what is the release schedule for fedora?
whizndr-: what would be the upside?
thanks
how do I make it writable again?
is there one?
you can lose all your drives
that would get rid of the two packages stopping the upgrade
brb
zcat, yum won't run until I make the drive writable
F8 Late Oct, F9 Early May
whizndr-, why not remove the 2 package
zcat, I think there has been some strange drive issues going on
rinse and repeat
already pushed back
it'll put it into rw mode, but why is it in ro mode?
cause I don't know what removing hal and kudzu will do to my system cause I don't specifically know what they do
EvilBob, and then F10 in Late Oct?
yeah Oct 31 and May 1 are the targets
ok
what? October? but I just got F7 booting on my laptop, I don't want to go through this all over again
so nov-june
so it's 6m release schedule?
LOL
yep
yes
evil_steve, you have a year
darkfrog, the xfs utils are available in rescue mode.
well nov 08
13 month total life
is there a petition i can sign for upgrade from cli being implemented?
following the theory that the even numbered releases are buggy and shouldn't be touched, eh
no
like I said some of the devs were looking at one way it could be done
i always thought it was the odd numbered ones that proved problematic...
Shihan, so my 5 to 7??
Shihan, i find they all have there unquie problems
none of the releases should be touched if you are scared of bugs, and don't look under your bed either
past performance is no guarantee of future results... or something
I'm in on those, then!
ne way - i'm going to try the upgrade with yum
ttyal
I hope you have better luck than me
oh, tbl, never jumped a release with an upgrade myself.
whizndr-, i won't
i lose irc with vpn connections though
you going from 5-6?
someone did setup split tunneling on their VPN
lol
did=didn't
what command do i use to cleanup the downloaded packages that yum downloaded when upgrading? or is there no reason to?
yum clean packages
thanks evilbob
read the yum man page
sorry, been about 8 months since last used linux. guess im off to read a couple of man pages lol. need to brush up.
thanks again guys
oh, btw, i've got a problem with evolution. i setup imap and gave it the wrong username... but now i cant change it... anyone know where i might edit a file to change the username?
yum remove evolution, it is evil
tell me about it
yum remove evolution && yum install thunderbird
+1
i've already got thunderbird up and running...
hi all. where is documented how to add a port range in the system-config-securitylevel-tui utility?
is this the correct way? 2110-2119:tcp
dahood use iptables
system-config-securitylevel has problems
VileGent, this utility is more convenient
VileGent, what problems?
not saving after you open the ports
I haven't noticed such behaviour until now, but i will keep it in mind. thanks
VileGent, the fix is STILL sitting in updates-testing... for 2 months. bleh
zcat i know
must not work
it works. the maintainer's just on vacation or something
the modprobe problem seems to be a bti better but its still using 100% every so often. Problem only occurs when X is running. Could you have a peek at my modules loaded and see can you spot anything that might be causing it ?
http://rafb.net/p/b4kOOn14.html
daveStyle; turn your head and cough
daveStyle; looks like your X has cancer :/
i'm sorry.
wouldnt surprize me
daveStyle, does your network use ip6
nope
Ok, maybe I'm not reading this right. Is there any way to make grep search for two strings within a file, so that if both strings are present, a match is considered?
I can't really determine based on the man page.
then turn it off
thats why I was wondering how do I disable some of those modules
I need to check to see if both string1 and string2 are in said file
on the same line?
n1
bye all
daveStyle, egrep 'foo|bar'
dan__t, ^
That is "and"?
on the same line?
No.
They will be on different lines.
then why not grep for each individually?
all done
hi
I could, but I wanted to do it in one pass.
im sick of cross-distro rpm specs now...
There's about 190k files to check, I'd rather just make one pass.
lol
i have been trying to get my specfile for oggconvert to work for both SUSE and Fedora
Yeah, good stuff.
but the changes were so much that the specfile was mutilated
it didnt match either one's requirements anymore...
so i split the specfile
and the suse specfile is stored in the OBS
while the fedora specfile (primary) remains on my system
I think I'm simply looking for an "inclusive match of two strings in a single file" option for grep
i just intalled fedora 7 linux, which went perfectly, the dual-boot works ok, and i like fedora. however i have one problem: my Linksys WMP54G, which has the RT61 chipset, does not work.
Doug52392, does it have a native driver?
is the blacklist file the best way to remove other unwanted modules ?
i have the CD that came with it, which has Windows drivers
ndiswrapper is usually your best bet
you can utilize those Windows drivers and have full support under NetworkManager with just a little work
"full"
daveStyle, the ipv6 is the only thing that stuck out
daveStyle, the ipv6 is the only thing that stuck out/
thanks man. I'll reboot and have a look
thats what i thought to, but i had the same problem in opensuse linux, ndiswrapper did not work. will it work in fedora?
yes
Lord_InuTaisho, ndiswrapper
it works great in fedora
What do you use to ass your RSS aggregator/podcast downloader?
s/ass/as/
I use liferea for RSS and rhythmbox for podcasts.
how do you do a yum localinstall with an unsigned package?
Hmm....I'm looking for an all-in-one solution.
you cant use yum for unsigned packages
you have to use double-clicking or rpm itself
well, wait
there is a switch
you shouldnt but you can
Anyone familiar with xnview?
turn off gpgcheck in yum.conf
i cant use the internet in linux until i get the wireless card working
yum --nogpgcheck localinstall rpmpackagename.rpm
thought you needed to use yum for it to end up in the database of installed packages for easy uninstallation.
I always love when you're going to a repo and it asks you to import a new key. I always just say yes, I mean would yum be sending me to bad repos?
Doug52392, then you need to download the rpms in windows and put them on a usb key and put them in linux
perlmonkey2, no
ok
So it is always safe to just import the new key?
Doug52392, i wouldnt suggest using rpm for the ndiswrapper to get internet working
unless you want to use the dkms version
perlmonkey2, if you trust the repo
but that requires downloading dkms rpms
I have no idea who the repo is.
then why is your yum have a repo for it
yum doesnt go anywhere you dont tell it to go
I have no idea. maybe fastestmirror sent me to it.
has nothing to do with it
anyone running compiz and vmware?
argh, easy_install for something from sourceforge that it can't find.
Doug52392, x86-32 or x86-64?
perlmonkey2, nexttime take a screenshot so we can see what you are talking about
I haven't see it since FC5. But what do I know, I can't even find the rss account editor in Thunderbird, and I'd swear it has one.
Reading http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/TTFQuery/1.0.0 Best match: TTFQuery 1.0.0 Downloading http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ttfquery/TTFQuery-1.0.0.zip?modtime=1079827200&big_mirror=0 error: Can't download http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ttfquery/TTFQuery-1.0.0.zip?modtime=1079827200&big_mirror=0: 404 Not Found
That mean it's gone from the website, yes?
yeah
which files should i use?
Trying to set up libprs for the ebook reader, guess it isn't going to work as easily as I'd hoped.
can i just download the ndiswrapper app from sourceforge?
use the livna rpms

suprised there is no package for this, seems like a pretty usefull ting to have, though I guess not too many people would need it.
Since there is no #podcast does anyone here know where I can find a podcast aggregator for accessible to Fedora? Something like Itunes where a ton of podcasts are listed for ready to subscribe to.
And I apparently have lost the ability to speak coherent English.
but the good news is that your Engrish is rock solid
Speaking of Engrish, Hi CrackJet
someone is getting some strange problems with last version kernel ?
I recommend just using whatever feedreader you can find and one of the online podcast search engines
Hi EvilBob
hello crachhead
sounds like a plan. thanks
Hi terrible VileGent
i wish songbird would get out of ... pre-alpha
sounds that last version kernel is so so ... and xsane .. etc etc
crackjet works fine for me
do you have scanner ?
yes
theres another one as well thats really popular and i cant remember the name
I have canon lide 25 .. but with new kernel ..
talking about 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7
complete sentences please
thats the old kernel
that is not the current kernel
no ?
yes
NO!
no notice update for me
YES!
we lied
yum - d 0 list kernel
oh damn
for no reason other than to mess with you
2.6.22.1-27.fc7
it is what they pay us for
2.6.22.1-33.fc7
not our fault you put exclude=kernel in your yum.conf
lol
you guys get paid?
nope
we wish
I get paid
something is worng with this command "yum - d 0 list kernel"
Not for this however
yum -d 0 list kernel
(bah. -1 is supposed to count back from the end of the disk in parted, but it doesn't work from the cmdline - only interactively. has to be a bug)
ok im going to try installing ndiswrapper. thanks!
i really wish i'd installed fc 32bit on the desktop
good luck or something
Shihan, whats stopping you
i'd have to reinstall... and that can wait for f8
ok
where can I download the FC7 kernel sources, patches, and config file?
there is no fc7
it works really wrll for the server... on the desktop i feel pain
i had x64 installed but had problems with vmware so i had to go back to the 32bit
I need to rebuild the kernel for the install
for what
and yes, there _is_ an fc7
strange .. I made "yum update" and everything is "No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion"
no there isnt
Fedora Core 7
no such thing
CrocoJet, rpm -q kernel
http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora.html
F7
exactly
its even on the download page, displayed promimently
okay fine, be semantic
nonetheless
i've not had many issues with vmware... but firefox 32/64 is a little unfun
you can use nspluginwrapper
yes.. but i've not been able to get java working with the nspluginwrapper
okay now. where can I get the full patchset for the F7 kernel and its config file?
bokay now. where can I get the full patchset for the F7 kernel and its config file?/b
that will give a clue
I don't have Fedora installed, I can't use yum
cant help you then
I need to get the sources so that I _can_ install it
.....
mind you, when i ran up dsl-n inside vmware with f7 64bit it resulted in a host crash... so i guess that would be a problem
srpms
Shihan, i could nt get vmware to run in x64
but since then there has been several any-any new patches
okay, which version do I download?
what specific build sips with the F7 install media?
ships*
is there an easy way to remove gnome?
dont you want kernel-devel ?
morghanphoenix, nope
why that last version "2.6.22.1-33.fc7" is not available "http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/updates/7/i386/" ?
Shihan, no
http://thelinuxmovement.blogspot.com/2007/07/new-compiz-fusion-effects.html
be cause it is not current
oh ok
(duh. fixed my stupid problem. had to pass -- to tell it to stop parsing -1 as an opt: parted -- /dev/sdb mkpart pri 0 -1 )
that is a testing kernel
CrocoJet, he got it out of developement
This'll be fun, only have a 10 gig partition for the os and it's damn near full now.
Updates-Testing
then I have last one stable "2.6.22.1-27.fc7" (official)
it is also http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=11747
look, I need the loop-aes driver to be present in the kernel image to do the install. I will be doing full-disk encryption, booting from USB media
I am using the -33 also
thus I need to rebuild the kernel with loop-aes support
ok
[Shiba], gl
I'm not asking for support. I just want to know where to get the kernel sources. Is that so hard?
it is stable here
-33 is good
[Shiba], i told you srpm
I feel miss Fc6
kernel.srpm
hi
is this the one I need?
http://mirror.cogentco.com/pub/linux/fedora/linux/releases/7/Fedora/source/SRPMS/kernel-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7.src.rpm
it looks like it
i need to compile LMMS from source so i can have the vst support with it, my only problem is that it cant detect my QT3 package
[Shiba], most likely
it says checking QTDIR... configure: error: *** QTDIR must be defined, or --with-qtdir option given
VileGent, do you think that F7 is more slow (gnome) than Fc6 ?
CrocoJet, nope
where can I get the .config used for the usb install image?
[Shiba], no idea
....
where can I get some answers? heh.
paradise
not here
lol
i thought kernel-devel was where the .config is?
Shihan, not for what he is doing
the one thing i've avoided like the plague for sometime though is recompiling a kernel
kernel-devel is needed for compiling kmods
Shihan, i have been happy with the stock fedora kernels
holy shit, there are 18 configurations
yes, this is true, but doesnt the kernel-devel .config encompass the "how we compile host our kernels" in terms of y/n/m
yes, that would be the .config
no the srpms does
really Fc6 is more stable F7 .... Am I wrong ?
i disagree
CrocoJet, you are treading thin ice tonight
whenever i need a new module for a kernel i prey it can compile as an external module.. plan b is "can i hack it to compile as external module".. plan c is "oh god no" ext3cow was a good example of plan b
too much updates ... F7
not enough
lol
i would have said centos myself
....
ext3cow .... as a module
uht oh
great idea.
no that is to closely related
10. Pick up gun
20. Shoot self in foot
30. goto 10
hehehe
ext3cow rawks...
not as an external module...
i've had no problems with it... so far...
you will, once you find out that you can't mount your root filesystem because the filesystem driver is on it...
oh... right, yeah, no, i dont use it for that kind of thing.. but you should be able to initrd that in there anyways
yes, well, so long as you're aware
its when you remember right after hitting 'reboot' that you decide to go commit suicide...
bits when you remember right after hitting 'reboot' that you decide to go commit suicide.../b
its great on file servers tho... "you want yesterdays file" go to ...@lotsofnumbers
lvm and snapshots for roots i think
"kernel-2.6.20-1.2962.fc6" if compared with "kernel-2.6.22.1-27.fc7". what is difference security and performance ?
2.1 revisions?
comparation
2.6.21 and earlier kernels has a vulnerbility
ok
no bad idea use Fc6
no = so
Fc6 is dead
nope
right ?
nope
nope ?
still going
how ?
it's dead in my eyes.
it doesnt get killed until F-8 comes out
fc5 is dead
miro... that was the media player i was thinking of earlier
2 releases +1 month
how do i get qt3 stuff for lmms?
but if you said "2.6.21 and earlier kernels has a vulnerbility" .. how will be stupid (donkey) to use ?
how will be?
go read the kernel changelog
go read up on the vulnerbilities
let me see
meoblast001, i think f7 has qt4
so you cant install qt3
stands corrected
qt-3.3.8-4.fc7
i need qt3
for lmms
i dont know how to get it
yeah, KDE3 is based on Qt3
qt3 is the default and there are add on qt4 packages
Fedora repositories are super empty
yum install qt
meoblast001, rpm -q qt
qt-3.3.8-4.fc7
ok that it
look for qtlibs
well LMMS wont install
where can i get kernel-2.621-1-3228? i cant find it anywhere
not a fedora problem
its on my laptop but the rpm isnt on my laptop
shadowarts, koji server
shadowarts, http://koji.fedoraproject.org/
VileGent, daMaestro thank you found it
2.6.22 hangs durning boot on this computer
Why does the fedora instance of Thunderbird not have the RSS account option?
maybe they want you to use liferea instead?
liferea hides the files in randomly named dirs. I want something that has a real repos dir so that I can point gtkpod at it.
perlmonkey2, it does
perlmonkey2, at least it did when i was using it, i've moved to using evolution
I'm reinstalling now to double check.
perlmonkey2, http://kb.mozillazine.org/RSS_basics_-_Thunderbird
stuff on koji isnt signed?
That's what I just checked to make sure Thunderbird *shoudl* have an rss option in create new accounts. Becuase my vanilla F7 thunderbird doens't.
perlmonkey2, file a bugzilla
nn
meoblast001, not a fedora problem
meoblast001, rpm -q kdebase
VileGent package kdebase is not installed
ok, wow.. xchat freaked out on me
twice.
Glad to know xchat hates you as much as the other software
We like you however
arn't you just software, EvilBob ?
Come on guys Hug daMaestro
LOL
no I am annoyingware
ahh yes.... the only *well known* linux virus ;-)
? yum update...is there an auto update command so i can leave the room and not have to come back in and hut Y for yes
mange to read the man page?
-y
manage*
hmmm i think i need a coffee
what has replaced alacarte as the gnome menu editor in f7?
I think you need a latte daMaestro
Nothing. Alacarte is what is used by default.
(at least, that's how my Fedora 7 came installed...)
:]
yeah, i'm waiting for this spin to finish so i can boot test it and then i can leave to go get one
ah .. i guess it's installed by default now
what distro is more stable ?
install them and find out for yourself
RHEL
Debian ?
uh
RHEL
look where you are
Today when I rebooted my fedora 7 box it hung during the start of INIT on bootup. I rebooted it a few times an waited for it to continue on with no luck. after 3 hours the box came up
you really think people in here are going to recommend debian to you on the basis it's more stable?
I was not in front of it when it did... But I am trying to figure out what it was hung on after the INIT vXXX message started
sweet
c'mon ..
Has anyone seen this or recommend what file I should look at to try and understand what the issue is?
BTW the box is a AMD dual core system... It did not even show Entering runtime level message it was just hung at the INIT vXXX line
dmesg
what step did it hang on?
not on a step did not enter the runtime level
did you try booting another kernel
yup a previous version and same thing
cool
Do I need anything for VMWare in Fedora 7 other than the RPM?
serial number
lol
and that's it, right?
the any-any patch
any-any atch
lolz
patch
Yeah, that's what I was asking about
how do i get that patch?
i ithink you need the compiler and kernel sources
hammer if you are on x86_64
xinitd, kernel-devel, abunch of X stuff
google
pubs.vmare.com/server1
try #vmware too
looking at dmsg
Your BIOS doesn't leave a aperture memory hole
Please enable the IOMMU option in the BIOS setup
would that do it
is this a proliant ?
f7 +x64 + fat32 = pain as well, so avoid that
f7 + x64 + fat32 + vmware even
other things that pop out are
nope
it is a amd 64 dual core with a Asus mb
what do you think
How do I make Firefox my default browser? When I open i link from xchat it opens with Konqueror
or anyone
personally on F7 I am pimping KVM here, used VMware for years, I figure in about 6 months KVM will catch up
Never use AMD CPUs on ASUS motherboards
Are there any Linux VM's that will host Windoze?
well never use AMD CPUs
LOL
whats wrong with amd?
should I try and disable APCI
You know what they say, opinions are like ass holes, and I am one, I just don't like AMD
ahhh, fair enough
awestwell, have you got the log?
yup
whats the paste url again?
dont know
I can paste it if you want... WOuld love some hgelp
I thought Xen was native to the 2.6.22 kernel, so do I still need to install it in F7?
awestwell, yes, you can, but not in irc, you'll make ppl cranky... but theres a website you can paste things into.. i just cant remember the url
afaik, xen is a kernel unto itself...
ya i am doing a google for it now
.23 gets xen and lguest(rusty visor)
as in, you get 2.6.22-... and then theres 2.6.22-xen0
but i dont think they've done that for 2.6.22 for f7...
'
lo
So until then I need to yum install Xen?
or just use KVM if you have VT support in your CPU
there is a virtualization quick start on the wiki
kvm aint bad *nod nod*
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/
altho, even without the kvm extensions, qemu isnt too bad either really
EvilBob I have no idea the pros and cons of xen or kvm. And until my new laptop I'm running on a P4-2.4ghz which I guess has HT.
checking the wiki now
yeah no VT support there you will need to use Xen
qemu supports non-vt as well...
qemu, kvm, xen. I have no idea which to use, although I guess kvm is out until I have HT.
perlmonkey2, http://giyf.us/virt+wiki
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Fedora7VirtQuickStart
kvm = qem + vt... in fact, qemu will startup regardless of wether kvm was loaded or not
cool, thanks
VT not HT
http://virt.kernelnewbies.org/TechComparison
Wow, looks like I'll end tonight at least a little knowledgabel about VM's.
http://papernapkin.org/pastebin/view/1089
I have posted the contents of dmesg
I had to use "acpi=off" and "noapic" during install. Will these effect my laptop in anyway?
Also, whenever I power down, my laptop goes all the way to system halted on the screen, but it never goes off and I have to hit my power button for it to go off.
yeah, thats what apci controls iirc (or part of what it does)
acpi
how do i get it back working?
you saw my url post correct
or will it have to remain disabled?
I also can't get my screen to go off, it just goes black but not off like it did in FC6
awestwall, cant see much wrong with the kernel startup... but im no expert either
ya thats what I thought
Anyone care to take a look
my dmesg is at http://papernapkin.org/pastebin/view/1089
[nix]: hmmm, if may have to remain disabled... when you say had do disable, what happens if it boots enabled?
acpi controlls the screen blanking as well iirc too
i never booted it with it enabled, not sure how to do that
well, I have to get it working somehow, because my computer is useless without it
got another question, why is there no mored 5 disk release anymore?
hmmm.. does your grub.conf have acpi=off in there somewhere?
i'll have to check, where do I find that?
/etc/grub.conf
you mean cdrom mteck?
ok, i've gotta boot into linux
ya
no idea.. i suspect its probably cause of the proliferation of dvd drives and pushing out the dvd and cdrom is proving a bit wastefull
as I am booting I see acpi=off and noapic beside kernel
seems pretty arrogant in my opinion
lol
seriously....
I woudn't be nagging in here quite so much if they still had them
seriously just shut up and go install ukanuba
well, you can always netboot if you dont have a cdrom
dvdrom even
Shihan, tried it... the way out network is set up is pretty locked down
oh wait, eukanuba is dog food, I men ubuntu
mean
well, the other option is usb external device boot
you don't want to be running fedora, so no matter what you are going to bitch forever
i'm trying to get that ordered
just shut up, we don't care
EvilBob, do you ever go away?
no, been here for years
lol... WELL, if you can get to a point where you are running anaconda, theres 5 options...
damn
plug a dvd into a box running a webserver or nfs... etc
nix, when your in there, can you see /etc/grub.conf?
yeah
i'm looking at it now
Shihan, four lines up, that was for me?
acpi=off and noapic is there
yeah...
Shihan, throwing the dvd into another server - even my own laptop is an option... how do I go about that? on both ends?
just remove acpi=off or is there a way to duplicate that kernel entry without the acpi option?
ujust remove acpi=off or is there a way to duplicate that kernel entry without the acpi option?/u
somebody call me when it's over
EvilBob, so far i think Shihan has helped me more than you did altogether, so I don't think the spork is necessary.
nix... ok.. this is gunna be fun, you can edit grub.conf, can you paste your into http://pastebin.ca
that computer doesnt have a net connection
hmmm.. ok.. one tick
yeah spork feeding is not my specialty, not my fault you can't even be bothered to read the install guide or use google at all. not to mention you are getting PAID for the work you expect us to tell you how to do.
basically at the end of the kernel line it has acpi=off noapic rhgb quiet
theres a couple of boot images in the dvd that can be used...
ok, take a look at this: http://pastebin.ca/634033
i've added a second boot option with acpi not disabled
Shihan, would I want to install caudium or apache on my laptop, through the contents of the whole dvd in /var/www/html to start?
ok, thats what I was thinking, I didnt know exactly how it should be done
basically after that you need to run grub-install
yeah, so long as its got indexing turned on, your boot should be able to get to it
run grub-install?
mines usually "grub-install /dev/sda" for example
Shihan, after that, how do I start the install on the server?
lol
in your example you removed "quiet", does it matter because mine is acpi=off noapic rhgb quiet. Quiet is at the end of the statement and I'm not sure what it does or rhgb.
under images directory on the dvd, you should be able to boot one of those
anyone running compiz and vmware?
like, burn boot.iso or something like that
yeah, i only do that cause in those situations is good to see where it hangs
[nix]: the "quiet" tells it not to display as much info while booting
Shihan, i'd tried using boot.iso but I got stuck when I was trying to cofigure the network
"rhgb" tells it to display the shiny progress bar instead of text mode
what's a good mp3 engine to go with amarok?
Kylratix, use the xine backend
i understand that now, thanks
yum install amarok-extras-nonfree
or something like that
ah
Shihan, the reason I can't figure it out is b/c the systems have dynamically assigned IP's - i got confused there and couldn't find much documentation on it
Is it possible to map a joystick in Fedora as though it were a mouse?
nice, works like a charm. thanks
Kylratix, you're welcom
hmm welcome*
what command do I type to extract a .zip file?
unzip file
you mean like unzip it?
yes yes
ok great
whao, theres a lot going on, but its not loading
that shouldnt be a problem, so long as you know the ip adddress of the webserver you put the dvd into you should be fine
hmmm.. im not sure you have many options left to be honest... if acpi causes the things to hang on startup... what hardware is it?
gateway 600X
i keeps showing ata1 and ata2 soft resetting port
/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: line 946: /bin/usleep : Input/output error
oh, switch off!
theres really not alot of info i can see about the gateway 600's, an im afraid acpi is beyond my abilities to debug
anyone have any problems with the nvidia drivers?
oh well, Fedora was fun while it lasted, any other distro's you think are worth trying?
they worked until i rebooted
before i even ran an update
i have been a redhat/fedora man most of my time... but, i was impressed with ubuntu *nod nod*
kylr, you using the livna drivers?
thanks for the help, I was hoping anything other than ubuntu or suse, hehe
lol, no prob, sry couldnt be more help... i suspect tho that you'll come up against the same issue tho
what has happened, because acpi worked fine in FC6
thats a dam good question, might be worth a fedora forum post though... it may just be a kernel version thing too
ok, in FC6, acpi worked with no problems at all for me on the same computer, but ever since I decided to install a fresh F7 the acpi has to be disabled for my computer to boot and work, I also found out that I didnt need to have "noapic" in the boot option either
Now in F7 the only option I have is acpi=off and it works like a charm, if I remove that its all down hill, lol. But like I said it worked fine in FC6
thanks for all the help and I still really like F7 so I'll post in forums about this and look at some other distros in the meanwhile
gin0, :**
Does the live CD have acpi enabled or does that not even apply to the live CD?
tatica, o/
nix, np, best of luck
i think its disabled on the CD
actually, im not sure
when I use the live CD the screen actually goes off
like it should
i thought that when acpi was disabled it dropped back to apm...
?
apm was the predecessor to acpi
